Every website has a robots.txt; this gives robots/crawlers/spiders a bunch of rules to follow, such as where they can/can’t crawl, and the pages they can/can’t index. You can check whether a URL is blocked by robots.txt with Google’s Robots Testing Tool. It’s better to have a custom 404 error code page than to have an empty page — it doesn’t send a good message to search engines or site visitors. People make use of search engines for a wide variety of purposes, with some of the most popular being to research, locate, and buy products. Overfed with countless advice making things look simple and obvious, webmasters often rely on their intuition, common sense, or gut feelings when it comes to SEO… and they often fail. The user’s keywords are typically shown in boldface when they appear in the search results (sometimes close synonyms are shown in boldface as well).
Add your target keyword to your title page
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could find out exactly which keywords your competitors are ranking for AND how much search traffic those keywords are bringing in? SEO offers incredible opportunity and access (it's an inherently free marketing channel) to inbound traffic, but it can be hard to know where to start and what advice to follow. Once the Search Engines crawlsthe web and comes across the new pages, it then indexes or stores the information in its giant database categorically, to be retrieved later when any search query related to it comes up. These giant database storage facilities is capable of processing large amount of information really quickly. It’s no coincidence that the highest-volume keywords also tend to have the highest amount of competition, and of course, the higher the competition, the harder it’s going to be to rank for that keyword. We all know that getting backlinks (a.k.a. inbound links) from trusted websites is a great way to give your website’s search rankings a boost. However, there’s also a dark side to backlinks. If Google suspects that there are spammy, low-quality sites linking to your site, your rankings could suffer. This is known as “negative SEO”. (In some cases, spammers will purposely direct lots of low-quality links to your site in order to cause negative SEO.)
Perform a content review
Brands that rank high on search engines have great content, address their target audience’s search intent, and take the time to optimize their sites from a technology standpoint. In most cases, it's not the technical issues themselves that are hurting your SEO efforts, but the results that are caused by the errors they create. Google now supports using therel=“canonical” link element across different domains. This means that you can have similar content on both the .com and .co.uk extensions of your site, and use the canonical link element to indicate the exact URL of the domain preferred for indexing. This will make duplicate content a non-issue. Also, keep in mind that this is not required when using different languages. Google does not consider foreign-language translations to be duplicate content. But it is something to consider for multiple locale sites in the same language. One way to approach SEO is to write catchy headlines. Linking out is huge. Don't be a link hoard; you're going to create content, so use it to gain favor with other people. I'll go more into depth below with specific tactics on linking out, but in general, you only have something to gain when you’re linking out. It’s easy to assume that Google already understands the content and relevance of each and every page on your website, but the fact is that it needs a fair amount of hand-holding. Fortunately, helping Google along really isn’t very difficult at all.
The first indication should be hosting location
Gaz Hall, a SEO Expert from the UK, said: "Which keywords are the fastest to page 1? Fastest to the top 5?" Mobile is becoming more popular every year. Content marketing is about creating content that will help Google to find your site and posts and to ensure you rank highly in the search engine results pages. While this is a powerful and useful effect though, it's actually only one part of what content marketing is about. Always research before you buy any SEO software because the search engine Algorithms are constantly changing thereby improving their search technologies to provide the most relevant results for their users. SEO tools for Google, MSN and Yahoo are numerous. The search industry is constantlyinnovating, and it might seem overwhelming for marketers with limited time and resources to try and keep on top of developments.
A natural link profile has variety. The links come from different domains and links will have different strengths. Website Optimization is about more than just making a page easier for users to browse through and navigate. There are also several things a website manager can do to optimize the website for their own devices. Every website page, including your blog, should have at least one call-to-action above the page’s fold -- in other words, don’t make your website visitor scroll down to see the call to action. Calls to action can help SEO by creating an internal link on your website to a specific landing page. Most calls to action are images; therefore you can optimise the image filename and alt text for the primary keyword you’re targeting on the page. Google won’t penalise duplicate content. Instead it will decide which version of the duplicate post should appear in search results and ignore the other. If you're anything like me, then you're looking to understand why certain things work the way they do.
Defining Your Site’s Audience
Find out which channels are driving traffic to your competition . 9 out of 10 people users make use of Search Engines to find an answer to their query. When these users type in their keywords/query, the Search Engine’s bots and spiders run their complex algorithms, scan through the giant database that has been crawled and indexed by them. They, then come up with results (websites) whose keywords matches with that of the query. Google’s SEO Starter Guide states that, “If your URL contains relevant words, this provides users and search engines with more information about the page than an ID or oddly named parameter would.” In other words, including keywords – or at least clear and direct information – in your URL is a best practice. Aside from offering users the best insights possible, high-quality content goes hand in hand with your backlink profile--a key element of SEO. The more links that you amass back to your website from other authoritative websites, the greater the likelihood is of improving the visibility your website receives in search engines. I think that ranking numberone these days, is more about market share and visibility than just ranking number one for an industry term.
